September Weekend Events
Posted on 17th Sep 12
We have lots going on this weekend so why not come over for a couple of days and enjoy the September Weekend on Bute.
The annual Baird of Bute Celebrations will take place on Saturday at the Baird Airstrip and Ettrick Bay beach. This annual celbration is one of the biggest events in Scotland's aviation calendar. Dignitaries, and pilots from all over Scotland, most arriving in their own aircraft, will join with the people of Bute to watch and enjoy the festivities. In the afternoon Mr Scott Grier OBE, Chairman of Loganair Limited, Scotland’s airline, which is this year celebrating its semicentennial 50th year of operation, will be awarded with the inaugural Baird of Bute Society Scottish Aviation Award. Amongst other events, there will be a fly-over of exiting planes followed by an exciting multi-aircraft aerobatics performance and display by the Royal Navy.
You can find out more about Andrew Baird and his flight at here or you can join the Bair of Bute Society here.
Whilst you're out and about discovering the island why not pop in to one of 11 different venues that are open around Bute showcasing some 23 participating artists work? This innaugaral event will see local artisits doing demonstrations and gives visitors the opportunity to find out a bit more about the process of creating works of art and craft.
Work will be for sale, so it’s a good chance to pick up original art, but there will no pressure to buy – this is primarily an event staged to show that Bute is brimming with an amazing array and variety of talent and innovation.
More information on the event is available here.
