Bute’s 2018 Gin Festival was held over the weekend 9/10 February.

Hosted by the Glenburn Hotel, the  Festival brought an eclectic mix of gins and gin makers to the Island.

So, we went along (purely in the interests of research, you understand)!  As I said to my wife, ” I am a wine and  beer drinker. This gin thing is just marketing, and I don’t like craft gin” .

The recently upgraded hotel is a truly fantastic setting for the festival, with more than 20 different types of gin on display and for taste.

The gin distillers were all knowledgeable, very enthusiastic and passionate about their product.  They were also very generous with their samples, and this gave the festival a fantastic buzz.

The whole event was coordinated and supported by  Craft56° .  They say:

“Launched in October 2017, Craft56° is dedicated to bringing together the best craft drinks from independent producers across the length and breadth of Scotland. The range currently includes an extensive selection of gin, rum, vodka, beer and gift sets.  We also operate monthly craft beer and gin clubs giving you the opportunity to discover the most exciting flavours and creations from Scotland’s best craft drink producers.

We are passionate about promoting Scottish products and were delighted when Robbie approached us to help bring the Gin Festival to the Glenburn Hotel and the people of Bute.

At the festival there were 20 Scottish gins available to be sampled from 8 different producers. Throughout the day there were also meet the maker talks and masterclasses given by 3 of the producers; The Old Curiosity Distillery, Beinn An Tuirc Distillery and McLean’s Gin. The hotel was also serving gin themed afternoon teas and had a cocktail bar serving up cocktails blended with the gins featured at the festival.

Craft56° also had a special offer running at the festival giving everyone who signed up to the gin club for 3 months a Sterling Silver pendant worth £59. We’ve now extended this offer to anyone who signs up until the end of February (https://www.craft56.co.uk/glenburn.html)”.

The Festival will run again in February 2019- so keep your eyes on our Events page. And I now like Craft Gin!
