Murray Doyle (Bute Wheelers) and Commonwealth Silver medalist Harry Tanfield

The Rothesay Cycling Weekend celebrates another fantastically successful 2-day event here on Bute, with around 400 cyclists coming to the island to take part.

Amongst the competitors was Harry Tanfield, the 2018 Commonwealth Silver medalist for the Men’s Time Trial and the Wheelers were thrilled to see him return after such a successful couple of years of competition.  This weekend was no exception and he is pictured here with his trophy, the Mount Stuart Road Race Champion.

A spokesman for Bute Wheelers (terrible pun!) said: “What makes the Rothesay Weekend of Cycling special are the cyclists who come to Bute every year from all over the UK and many of them have already booked their accommodation for next year!

“The cycle weekend would not be possible without the fantastic support we receive from our local community.  A big thank you to our sponsors – The Bike Shed and Visit Bute. We also get great support from A&B Council, Jimmy Duncan who provides a van for the weekend and we’d be lost without the support of Craigmore Bowling Club. And a big thank you to all those wonderful volunteers who acted as marshals and supported us in all those other vital jobs behind the scenes.”
