The 5 Ferries Challenge

Have you heard of the 5 Ferries Challenge?

This is where you ‘bag’ the 5 ferries that serve the islands of Arran and Bute as well as explore the Cowal and Kintyre peninsulas. You could bag them by car, by bike or by foot – and remember, your bike is carried free of charge by Calmac and Scotrail! In a campervan? The Hopscotch 4 and Hopscotch 5 tickets combined would cover this trip.

It could be your holiday project this year!

Here are the routes, but you can tackle them in any order that you please – at any time you please! So maybe you want to do this over the course of 5 weekends and build in a little break from work at the same time? No problem!

If you are looking for accommodation here on Bute, why not check out VisitBute’s members – there are some fantastic places that you can book here – everything from glamping pods and B&Bs to hotels and self-catering properties!

One of the great free things that you can do as you travel across Bute to your next ferry is stop and have your photo taken at the signpost that marks the division between The Highlands of Scotland and The Lowlands.
